Shabazz Palaces delivers once again a very unique form of Hip hop, one that pushes the boundaries of the genre beyond further, that experiments with great success in different directions, yet manages to stay cohesive through variety. This albumis rich enough to correspod to lots of moods depending on how it is listened.
Favorite track: Recollections of the wraith.
Where do you start with this album, or Shabbazz Palaces for that matter? Black Up is as experimental as it gets. The album takes a good ten or so listens to fully comprehend sonically, not to mention the amount of time it will take to decipher the lyrical content. However, this results in the album improving with each listen, even fifteen rounds in.
Favorite track: Swerve... the reeping of all that is worthwhile (Noir not withstanding).
